Swiss ball with Susan KnightSusan Knight, C.C.S., C.P.R.S.
Rehabilitation & Exercise Consultant
Sue offers two classes at L'Esprit Sport that will dramatically improve strength, core stability and postural awareness, all of which will help prevent injury and enhance a personal yoga practice.

Pilates/Swiss Ball classes: Sue teaches several weekly "pilates on the ball" classes, which build core strength, and increase spinal stabilisation and flexibility. This class is literally a "ball", movements are both challenging and fun and will change the way you look and feel in your body.

Back Care classes: Sue's back care class is ideal for anyone with persistant back pain or injury, and consists of a progressive program of exercises designed specifically to reduce chronic low back pain by strengthening abdominal muscles, stretching soft tissue structures and correcting poor posture.

Pilates / Swiss Ball
This class is designed to challenge the “power centre” of your body by combining the methodologies seen in Swiss ball training, Stabilization training, and Pilates training. Its exercises safely provide an excellent means to develop core strength and stabilization, motor control, and muscle endurance, without adding bulk. You can expect an increase in flexibility, mobility, balance, and body awareness, as well as a decrease in back pain and other general pains.

Swiss ball with Susan Knight The Pilates emphasis is on deep breathing and smooth long movements that encourage your muscles to relax and lengthen. Its primary focus is on strengthening the abdomen, lower back and buttocks. As a result it balances the muscles around the joints, improving the way your body functions, looks and feels.

The Stability Ball, also known as Swiss ball, is used as a well-rounded tool to stretch & strengthen the body. Its emphasis is to acquire and/or maintain perfect postural position. Hands on work by the instructor through verbal, visual & physical cueing will help guide you and re-educate the body to proper postural alignment.

The blending of these techniques invites you to come and discover a new approach to exercise that will encourage body awareness and promote efficient movement. Explore how this class will enhance your level of functional fitness because of improved balance, co-ordination & circulation. The result of such stabilization training is a strong flexible body.

Due to the non-impact nature of Pilates / Swiss Ball, it is suitable for the young and old, the physically active, and the sedentary.

Back Care
Swiss ball with Susan KnightThe Back Care is a class open to anyone, but is especially dedicated to helping people appreciate the benefits of postural realignment and movement retraining, as well as to teach individuals the importance of proper body mechanics. It offers a progressive program of exercises designed to target and reduce acute or chronic back pain by way of strengthening core abdominal muscles, stretching soft tissue structures, and correcting posture.

This is a truly unique class that should be taken in combination with physiotherapy as a secondary treatment, as a post-physiotherapy approach to help support the rehabilitation process, or as a preventative measure to limit future back pain recurrence.

Come and learn core muscle awareness in various functional positions; standing, seated, on your back and on your tummy. These training principles can be easily incorporated in, and will immediately better, your every day lives.

Individuals experiencing highly acute or exceedingly irritated back pain should be evaluated and given consent by a Physiotherapist or Doctor before participating.

Please mention to Susan before the class begins your history of any prior treatment for back pain.
